it seems that there are a few teams that are able to jump divisions when it benefits them. For example, my sons team played a certain team a few times during the fall season who were d2, then at the end of the season that same team plays D3 at the winter world series. My first thought was that maybe they lost enough games to get bumped down to D3, but their record did not reflect that. Actually that same team is now advertising themselves as D2 for their tryouts. Fair is fair, and they shouldn't be sandbagging D3 tournaments to get the win.

Teams do not get to pick what they are ranked, it's mostly based on pitching and teams that you have lost too. Our club started at D3 and was ranked D2 after a month. We are now D1 because we beat all the D2 teams we played. Topgun decided what to rank the team and the teams are reevaluated approximately every 4 weeks. Hope that helps.

many teams are moved up or moved down based on head to head games with like division teams. below is the criteria for each. Yes it sucks that a team who was D2 was demoted right before world series or a team that was D3 was promoted right before world series play but that is the rules.
2021 Promotions: Teams going from D3 -> D2: Win 2 Gold Bracket tournaments or winning percentage of .650 (against other D3 teams) minimum 12 games Teams going from D2 -> D1: Win 3 Gold Bracket tournaments or winning percentage of .750 (against other D2 teams) minimum 12 games Demotions: Teams going from D1 -> D2: Winning percentage of .250 (against other D1 teams) minimum 12 games Teams going from D2 -> D3: Winning percentage of .350 (against other D2 teams) minimum 12 games
